Built in the third year of the reign of Emperor Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1864) as a typical ancient building, Anyang Academy was built by Li Hongzhang's assistant, Qian Xu. With a long history and numerous talents, it has trained the sculpture master Mr. Qian Shaowu known as the Oriental Rodin. Furthermore, 4 generals, 2 ambassadors, 5 doctoral tutors, and more than 10 professors have graduated from this academy. Now it is a provincially protected site of cultural relics.

Originally as the Yangshan Campus of Huishan Vocational Education Center and a protected site of cultural relics, Anyang Academy was then relocated to Outang Vocational Education Park in Wuxi. The government of Yangshan Town took it over at the end of 2008, responsible for the protection, restoration and proper utilization of the cultural relics in it. In order to conscientiously implement the cultural relics protection policy of“effective protection, rescue first, reasonable use, and strengthened management”, Jiangsu Jiangdu Classical Garden Construction Co., Ltd. was commissioned to carry out a comprehensive renovation and overall improvement of Anyang Academy in 2017. Since then, the environment of the Academy has been improved, and greened scenic spots have increased to restore its original architectural style and environment, thus it has become an important window for the implementation of patriotic education. This project was officially approved by the provincial cultural protection unit last year.
